We have made so many wonderful memories of our Pine Tree property! First off, we love, the serenity and quiet we have, with town just 10 minutes away. It is a different world up here on the mountain. It has been especially gratifying to offer "Pine Tree Lodge" to our friends and family who traveled here and stayed with us. Our house was home base while exploring Jackson Hole, Grand Teton Park, Yellowstone Park, Island Park, Swan Valley - so many wonderful places to enjoy within a two hour radius, not to mention the great fishing so close, along with world class skiing. The opportunities to see wildlife right in our backyard abound - moose, mule deer, a black bear cub playing on the wood pile, fox with five pups playing in the driveway, grouse with chicks - and more. Having cookouts and picnics on our lookout over Grove Creek - watched a deer being chased by a wolf - hello, Yellowstone! Our longer trail down to Grove Creek Road offers a great hike and can be extended down the road to the fence line, then up to the house above us and down the road to home. This is under an hour so just about right for most people. Our bird population gives us great joy - hummingbirds - rufous, calliope, and ruby throated - in abundance, evening grosbeaks at the feeder teaching their young how to feed, the happy Black-capped and mountain chickadees, black headed grosbeaks, many finches including American goldfinch, rosy finch, and pine siskin and red crossbill. Spring migration brings visits from Western tanagers and indigo bunting, and Fall migration brings the cedar waxwing. On our suet feeders: the downy and hairy woodpeckers, Steller's jays, the occasional Clark's nutcracker and common flicker. More birds than we can identify! We have a passion for picking huckleberries and have found them on the south end of our property and, of course, in the adjoining national forest - so close, just a short hike away. Being in the mountains you cannot compare the evening skies away from civilization. Sitting in the hot tub looking at a star studded sky - identifying the constellations and watching for shooting stars is the ultimate relaxation. With our four horses, our trail rides from the house were memorable. The network of trails behind the house were endless, the 360 degree views of the Big Holes where the horses took us, always having a campfire and cooking up breakfast or dinner and lots of picnics. The wild flowers were endless. Seeing scat on the trails allowed us to imagine the animals watching us walk through their backyard. In the winter our sledding hill was used for many sledding parties - sled down the road 1/2 mile, snowmobile pulls the sledder up the hill, hamburgers on the grill in the garage. Campfire for s'mores. Our church youth group - and their leaders - voted it "Best Sledding Hill". We enjoy that our house - at 6,450 feet elevation - is typically 10 degrees cooler than the valley in the "heat" of the summer and in winter we are 10-15 degrees warmer than the valley. Our neighbor is 0.4 miles further up our drive. His 6,000 ft "cabin" is used 3-4 times a year for a week or two. We would love to pass this wonderful home on to a family which could appreciate and enjoy the next 25 years as much as we have the last.
